Baseball Jumps Back into the National Poll at #27
DAHLONEGA, GA
– Coming off a week that saw the North Georgia baseball claim
three wins in four games, the Saints have jumped back into the
national picture, coming in at #27 in this week’s Collegiate
Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll released on Tuesday
afternoon.
North Georgia debuted in the first poll of the year at #24, but
quickly dropped from the ranking after losing two of three at home
to Pfeiffer on opening weekend. The Saints have now won four of
their last five and six of their last eight dating back to February
19.
Head Coach Tom Cantrell’s squad has picked up victories in
every season opener this season, but continue to struggle in
doubleheaders, not sweeping a double dip in four attempts this
season.
North Georgia is one of five teams ranked in the poll, as Francis
Marion moved up one spot to #2 in the country, while Columbus State
moved into the top 10 at #8, and GCSU is fourth in the league at
#23 nationally. The Saints follow at #27, while UNC Pembroke
dropped three spots and round out the poll at #30.
Last week, North Georgia traveled to Anderson University and
dominated the Trojans 16-7 behind 21 hits and runs in seven of the
nine innings. Chad Sage had a day at the plate, going 5-6 with five
runs batted in and four runs scored, while Craig Brisson added a
four-hit performance.
The Saints then open Peach Belt Conference play and took two out
of three from UNC Pembroke over the weekend, including a 12-10
victory in the rubber game of the series on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints return to the diamond on Tuesday evening, traveling
south to West Florida for a two-game set with the Argonauts. The
series opener is scheduled for Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., while the
finale is set to take place on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. as
the Peach Belt and Gulf Coast Conference clash in mid-week action.
