DAHLONEGA, GA
– The North Georgia College & State University baseball
team is ranked for the third straight week in the latest Collegiate
Baseball Magazine Division II Top 30, coming in at No. 17 with 212
total points.
After a weekend that saw the Saints take two of three from the
Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern, North Georgia drops two spots
this week and land at No. 17 in the country. After taking the first
two games of the series, North Georgia found themselves having to
rally in the series finale, but a two spot in the ninth inning was
not enough as GSW held on the for the 8-7 victory in the final game
of the weekend.
The Saints currently sit at 15-7 overall and 6-3 in the Peach Belt
Conference’s west division. North Georgia has taken two of
three in all of their league series this season, with a chance to
sweep each of their last two sets against GCSU and GSW.
North Georgia continued a trend over the weekend of taking the
opening game of the series, having picked up victories in all seven
of their series openers this season, while Saints swept a
doubleheader from the Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon, their first
doubleheader sweep in six attempts this season.
The Saints are one of five teams representing the Peach Belt
Conference in the latest poll as Columbus State climbs one spot to
No. 5, while USC Aiken had the biggest jump, moving up 12 spots to
round out the top 10. Francis Marion falls four spots to No. 13,
while North Georgia is No. 15, and UNC Pembroke rounds out the
league at No. 19.
Florida Southern is the nation’s top team for the fourth
straight week, currently sitting at 21-2 overall with 480 total
points. UC San Diego is second with a 23-3 record, followed by
Mount Olive at 21-1 and Central Missouri at 15-1 on the season.
North Georgia returns to action with a two-game mid-week set
against Carson-Newman, taking on the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday
afternoon, followed by the series finale on Wednesday at 2:00
p.m.
After two mid-week games, the Saints welcome new league member
Montevallo to town for a three-game weekend Peach Belt Conference
series. North Georgia will oppose the Falcons with a doubleheader
on Saturday set for 1:00 p.m., followed by a single game on Sunday
at 1:00 p.m.
