#17 Saints Top Montevallo to Open Weekend Set
DAHLONEGA, GA
– The 17th-ranked North Georgia baseball team continued their
trend of not dropping a series opener this season by jumping on top
early and never looking back in a 6-1 victory over the University
of Montevallo at Bob Stein Stadium in Peach Belt Conference
action.
The Saints improve to 17-8 overall on the season, and move into
second place in the Peach Belt Conference west division at 7-3 in
league action, while The Falcon’s struggles continue, falling
to 6-20 on the year and still winless at the conference at
0-10.
North Georgia took an early advantage in the second inning as Chad
Sage went opposite field and launched his team-leading ninth home
run of the season, a solo shot to give starting pitcher Chris
Rearick a 1-0 lead to work with.
In the third, the Saints added two more runs as Snitker led off
the inning with a double and came around to score, before Andre
Airich provided a clutch two-out single up the middle to plate the
second run of the inning. Airich continued his day at the plate in
the fifth with a double to right center, splitting the gap and
bringing Craig Brisson and Jordan Erisman racing home to score and
make it a five-run game.
The Falcons got their only run of the game in the seventh as Joe
Prokop launched a solo shot to left center, making it a 5-1 North
Georgia lead, but the Saints added a single run in the eighth off a
Brisson single to put a lid on the scoring and give the home team a
6-1 victory.
Rearick (6-0) continued to shine for the Saints, tossing 8.0
innings and allowing just one run on seven while striking out six.
Heath Tapscott (2-3) suffered the loss in 7.0 innings of work as
the senior allowing five runs on six hits while striking out seven
and walking seven.
The Saints and Falcons will meet in a doubleheader on Saturday
afternoon with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. at Bob Stein Stadium.
