Six Sports Ready to Spring Into Action this February

DAHLONEGA, GA – With the fall season in the rearview mirror and basketball in full swing, spring sports are just around the corner as six more sports are awaiting the start of their championship season.

Full schedules, rosters, and news are available for men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, baseball, and softball as they prepare for their respective seasons to kickoff in February of 2011.

The men's tennis team opens the 2011 season with three straight home matches to open the year, welcoming Young Harris College, Francis Marion, and Newberry College to Dahlonega the first three weeks of February. With a road-heavy schedule, the Saints will play just six home matches next spring, capped by two-time NCAA Division II National Champions Armstrong Atlantic on April 3.

The Lady Saints tennis team will open the season with a slew of home matches, playing seven of their first eight contests in Dahlonega. Kent Norsworthy's squad will play four conference matches over the final two weeks of February, setting up eight straight road matches during the month of March. North Georgia will host a pair of Peach Belt Conference schools to close out the home slate, welcoming Flagler College to town on April 2, before three-time defending Division II National Champion Armstrong Atlantic will follow on April 3.

The North Georgia men's golf team returns to action this February in their second season of competition, traveling to five tournaments around the Southeast before competing in the Peach Belt Conference Championships hosted by Armstrong Atlantic at Savannah Quarters Country Club on April 11-12. The Saints open the spring season in Panama City Beach for the Outback Intercollegiate at Hombre Golf Club, before coming back the following week at See Island Golf Club for the Coastal Georgia Men's Winter Invite.

The women's golf team has a full schedule of their own, opening the season at Coastal Georgia's Women's Winter Invite. Following a week off, the Lady Saints travel to Columbus State University for the Cougar Invitational at the Country Club of Columbus in preparation for the final event of the season at the Second-Annual Peach Belt Conference Women's Golf Tournament. The two-day event is scheduled to take place on April 11-12, at the Savannah Quarters Country Club hosted by Armstrong Atlantic.

The 2011 North Georgia baseball schedule kicks off with 14 of the team's first 17 games at home, including series against Mars Hill, Stillman College, and Millersville University the first three weeks of February. The Saints have added their first regular season Division I opponent in program history as the squad will travel to Tallahassee, Fl., for a matchup with Florida State University at Dick Howser Stadium. The battle with Seminoles sits between two of the biggest conference weekend series all year as the Saints will welcome Columbus State to town before heading to Tallahassee and will return to find Francis Marion waiting at Bob Stein Stadium, both National Tournament contenders from a year ago. The 2011 PBC Baseball Tournament will take place May 8-12, at Golden Park in Columbus, Georgia.

The Saints softball team opens up the 2011 season on February 5-6 at the Aiken Early Bird tournament in Aiken, SC, where last year the Saints swept through the field with four straight wins. The following weekend, they hit the road again and travel to Columbus, Georgia, for a two-day tournament where they take on Ohio Valley, Lynn University, and West Alabama. After the squad's home opener against Mars Hill, the Saints play three straight tournaments on the road that will feature 13 games in four different cities. North Georgia will play a full league slate as the team looks to claim their third straight Peach Belt Conference Championship. The Saints will return to the 2011 PBC Tournament at Freedom Florence Park on April 15-17, as two-time defending champions, looking to become just the third school in league history to repeat as Tournament Champions three years in a row.
