AUGUSTA, GA - Jacob Rickett has been named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week announced on Tuesday afternoon from the league office. Rickett is the first North Georgia baseball player to earn a conference weekly award this season.
As the Peach Belt Conference leader in saves with 11, Jacob Rickett put together one of the most impressive pitching performances in North Georgia history on Sunday afternoon, as he came out of the pen for 8.0 innings of relief work to clinch a spot for the Saints in the upcoming PBC Tournament.
In a must-win game to reach the conference tournament, Rickett allowed just four hits and no earned runs, while striking out 12 to earn his 5th victory of the season. Having never pitched more than 3.0 consecutive innings in his career, Rickett came on in the second inning and escaped a bases loaded no out situation without a run scoring, before going the distance in a 5-3 victory.
The Cumming, Ga., native has an earned run average of 1.78 in 35.1 innings of work on the season, and is averaging 1.5 strikeouts per inning.
Rickett and the Saints return to action on Tuesday evening, welcoming Emory University to town for a prime time 7:00 p.m. first pitch, before King College makes their way to Bob Stein Stadium over the weekend.
