MONTEVALLO, AL – The North Georgia baseball team held off a late Montevallo rally on Saturday afternoon, winning 8-4 in game three of the weekend series at Kermit A. Johnson Field.
The Saints (20-21, 10-14 PBC) have now won three of their last four conference series', while the Falcons (21-21, 15-12 PBC) have dropped three of their last four.
Taylor Keinat bounced back from a rough start last weekend against Columbus State tossing eight solid innings, striking out four and allowing four runs to pick up his second win of the season.
North Georgia wasted no time opening the scoring, as they plated three runs on five hits in the top of the first. Matthew Black and Terrell Jones hit back-to-back RBI singles with one out in the frame and Tremayne Toorie capped the scoring with an RBI fielder's choice.
The Saints added to their lead in the fifth when Kenny Bellavance and Black had back-to-back RBI hits to leftfield. Black continues to feast on PBC pitching going 10-22 with four RBI's in his last two series.
The Falcons cut into the lead plating a run on three hits in the home half of the fifth.
North Georgia added three insurance runs in the seventh when Toorie hit an RBI single through the left side and three batters later Andrew Gordon sent a rope to left field bringing home Toorie and Jones.
The Falcons rallied in the eighth scoring three runs on four hits, but Keinat was able to get himself out of the jam.
In the ninth, Saints skipper Tom Cantrell turned to senior Jordan Erisman to seal the victory and he did just that working a scoreless frame.
Offensively, the Saints two thru six hitters combined to go 11-23 with six RBI's and contributed to all three of North Georgia's extra base hits.
The Saints return to the diamond on April 18, when they travel to Tallahassee, Florida, to take on one of the premier programs in Division I, Florida State.
