North Georgia Wins Fourth Straight With 2-1 Victory Over Pfeiffer

DAHLONEGA, Georgia – (UNGAthletics.com) – The University of North Georgia baseball team earned its fourth straight victory with a 2-1 win over Pfeiffer University on Saturday evening at UNG's Bob Stein Stadium.  The two teams will cap the three-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow (Feb. 16) with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 PM.

Pfeiffer (4-2) opened the scoring with a run in the top of the second inning when the Falcons capitalized on a Nighthawk fielding error to plate a run with a sacrifice fly by Cody McKenzie.  The Nighthawks loaded the bases in their half of the second but were unable to plate a run.

UNG found the equalizer in the bottom of the third when Eason Spivey led off with a walk and eventually scored on a two-out single to centerfield by Travis Naraine.

The next three innings would be scoreless as both pitchers settled into a rhythm.  North Georgia finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh when Naraine registered a sacrifice fly to left scoring Spivey and giving the Nighthawks a 2-1 lead.

Naraine was responsible for both Nighthawk runs, finishing 1-1 with both RBI's.  Trevor Sams led the North Georgia offense as he recorded his third multiple-hit game of the season going 2-4 from the plate.

Brandon Agar earned the victory on the mound to improve to 2-0 on the season.  The sophomore right-hander threw seven innings recording seven strikeouts against four hits with the lone Falcon run being unearned.   Christian Turnipseed recorded his third save of the season in three save opportunities pitching a scoreless final two innings striking out three of the six batters he faced.

The win improves UNG to 4-3 on the season.
