Soccer Teams to Hold Annual “Senior Night” and Academic Recognition Saturday
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The North Georgia College & State University soccer teams will hold their annual “Senior Nightn and Academic Recognition Night” at the North Georgia Soccer Field on Saturday, Oct. 27 as part of a Peach Belt Conference soccer doubleheader with the University of South Carolina Aiken. The Saints will recognize 11 total seniors for their services to the two programs and will also award eight players who have excelled in the classroom.
On the women’s side, the Saints will be thanking six seniors for their services over the past four seasons that includes an impressive 52-16-6 record. The North Georgia women have also out-scored their opponents 200-82 in that same span while recording 20 shutouts.
Emily Bowen, Kelsey Martin, Leanne South and Melanie Thompson have all been with the program for four years. Taylor Lee is a three-year member of the program after transfering from Western Carolina while Abby Trevino is in her second season with the Saints after transfering from Mississippi State and all six have helped take the program to new heights.
The women will also award eight players for their academic work at half time of their game and will then recognize the seniors following the final horn of their 5:00 p.m. game.
The men will recognize five seniors in this year’s graduating class. Max Angel, Chris Bishop and Juan Hurtado have all been with the program for four years. Jesy Phelps is a three-year member after transfering from Coastal Carolina and Gustavo Cunha a two-year member from Cloud County Community College.
The men will recognize their seniors just proir to the start of their 7:30 p.m. contest and will then hand out their eight academic awards at half time.
Those student-athletes being recognized for their academic achievements for the women will be Kayla Croom, Becca Lee, T. Lee, Martin, Megan Morrow, Lindsey Roles, South and Thompson. Mikki Bozickovic, Jamie Gleeson, Hurtado, Malte Krapp, Alex Mohammed, Phelps, Ricahrd Westerfield and Payne Wright will all be recognized for the men’s side.
The 11 seniors on the two squads will play their final regular-season home game on Saturday against USC Aiken. Both teams are guaranteed a spot in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament with the women currently fifth in the league standings and the men sixth, but there is still a lot on the line in Saturday’s games as both outcomes will help decide oppoents and locations for first round tournament games.
