DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia’s Acting Athletics Director Lindsay Reeves has announced the addition and promotion of a pair of individuals to the athletics administration as the 2010-2011 season is set to kick off later this month.

Reeves has added Derek Suranie as the Acting Associate Director of Athletics, while Denise Bryant has been promoted to Acting Senior Women’s Administrator, both positions effective immediately.

Suranie is familiar with the department having served seven years as the Head Athletic Trainer, before just completing his third year as the Athletic Training Program Coordinator and second as Clinical Coordinator.

He will oversee the day-to-day operations of the department and will continue to coordinate the Athletic Training Education Curriculum.

Suranie is from Woonsocket, RI where he graduated from Woonsocket High School. He attended Marietta College in Marietta, OH and graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine.

Aside from her new responsibilities as the Acting Senior Women’s Administrator, Bryant will continue her duties as the compliance coordinator, which consists of overseeing recruiting activities, scholarships, the National Letter of Intent program, and managing the NCAA eligibility center.

Along with her compliance duties, Bryant will also oversee the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations and polices that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses.

Bryant, in her 20th year at the university, and 17th with the department of athletics, is a lifelong resident of Dahlonega and a 1983 graduate of Lumpkin County High School. Denise and her husband Skipper are the parents of Emily Bryant and the late Jeremy Wehunt.
