Pair of Changes on Tap for Athletics Administration
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia’s Acting
Athletics Director Lindsay Reeves has announced the addition and
promotion of a pair of individuals to the athletics administration
as the 2010-2011 season is set to kick off later this month.
Reeves has added Derek Suranie as the Acting Associate Director of
Athletics, while Denise Bryant has been promoted to Acting Senior
Women’s Administrator, both positions effective
immediately.
Suranie is familiar with the department having served seven years
as the Head Athletic Trainer, before just completing his third year
as the Athletic Training Program Coordinator and second as Clinical
Coordinator.
He will oversee the day-to-day operations of the department and
will continue to coordinate the Athletic Training Education
Curriculum.
Suranie is from Woonsocket, RI where he graduated from Woonsocket
High School. He attended Marietta College in Marietta, OH and
graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Sports
Medicine.
Aside from her new responsibilities as the Acting Senior
Women’s Administrator, Bryant will continue her duties as the
compliance coordinator, which consists of overseeing recruiting
activities, scholarships, the National Letter of Intent program,
and managing the NCAA eligibility center.
Along with her compliance duties, Bryant will also oversee the
Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), a committee made up of
student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the
student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the
rules, regulations and polices that affect student-athletes' lives
on NCAA member institution campuses.
Bryant, in her 20th year at the university, and 17th with the
department of athletics, is a lifelong resident of Dahlonega and a
1983 graduate of Lumpkin County High School. Denise and her husband
Skipper are the parents of Emily Bryant and the late Jeremy
Wehunt.
