Soccer Programs Set to Open Seasons this Weekend
Men's Soccer Schedule | Women's Soccer Schedule
DAHLONEGA, GA
– The first athletic event of the fall is just around the
corner as the women’s soccer team travels to Lees-McRae on
Thursday afternoon to officially open the 2010-11 athletic
year.
The Lady Saints are coming off their most successful season in
school history and will look to jump right back into the win column
on Thursday afternoon, taking on the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College
with kick off set for 4:00 p.m. at Tate Field.
Following a battle on the road to open the year, the women’s
soccer team returns to the friendly confines of the North Georgia
soccer complex on Saturday afternoon to tangle with Belmont Abbey
at 1:00 p.m.
The Lady Saints have not lost their season opener since the 2005
season when the squad fell 2-1 to Lenoir-Rhyne, one of nine
straight losses to open the year. Since 2005, the women’s
soccer team is 2-0-2 in season opening games.
The men’s soccer team will open the year Friday afternoon at
the annual Clayton State Laker Shootout in Morrow, Georgia, with a
battle against the 14th-ranked Anderson University Trojans. The
Saints will then come back on Saturday and take on Belmont Abbey in
a Peach Belt and Conference Carolinas matchup at 5:00 p.m.
The Saints are looking for their first winning season since the
2005 campaign that saw North Georgia finish 10-6-2 overall and in
the “Final Four” of the Peach Belt Conference
Tournament. The Saints will also look to break a trend of dropping
their season opener, going four straight years without a win to
open the year. The last season opener in the win column for the
Saints was a 2-1 victory over Belhaven in 2005.
