Men's Golf and Softball Win Sportsmanship Awards
DAHLONEGA, GA
– The North Georgia College & State University
men’s golf and softball teams were selected as the Peach Belt
Conference’s Team Sportsmanship Award Winners the league
office announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The men’s golf team completed their inaugural season this
spring, competing in nine events with a pair of victories,
including a first-place finish at the 11-team Piedmont
Invitational. The Saints fired four round under par, including
Howard Duffin’s program low three-under-par 69 in the opening
round of a head-to-head match against the University of Dayton in
Ohio.
The softball team picks up their second straight PBC Team
Sportsmanship Award as the Saints won their second consecutive PBC
regular season and tournament championship and have been ranked as
the nation’s No. 1 team in every regular season poll this
year. Sitting at 45-0 heading to their third straight NCAA
Tournament, the Saints are awaiting word on seeding and location
for the upcoming Southeast Regional May 14-16, 2010.
The Peach Belt Conference presents an award following each
championship season to the team in that sport that best exemplifies
sportsmanship and generally conducts themselves with a high degree
of integrity, character and class.
The team sportsmanship award is selected by other teams who
compete in that sport. Points are awarded based on how each team
finished in the voting and at the end of the year, the institution
with the highest totals will receive the ‘PBC Institution of
the Year Sportsmanship Award.
