DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia used balance scoring and timely shooting to take down Carson-Newman 104-95 Wednesday night in non-conference action. The Saints placed five players in double-figures to come away with the nine-point victory.

North Georgia improves to 6-1 on the season, while Carson-Newman will enter the 2009 calendar year with a record of 4-8.

The Saints jumped out to an early lead with a barage of three-pointers to take an 18-10 advantage with 16:12 remaining in the half. North Georgia led by as many as 10 points in the first period, but Carson-Newman’s Joey Cameron knocked down a pair of buckets late to cut the lead to six at 56-50 heading into halftime.

North Georgia continued to push the tempo in the second half and led by as many as 17 points with 12:02 remaining on a layup by Brody Langston. Adam Plavich brought the Eagles right back into the game with four long balls in the second period, cutting the Saints lead to just a bucket at 96-94 with 3:25 remaining in the contest.

The Saints rallied over the last three minutes, holding Carson-Newman without a field goal while going on an 8-1 run to come away with the 104-95 victory.

Senior Anthony Rowe carried the offense with 20 points on 8-11 shooting, while pulling down 12 rebounds for his third straight double-double. Andre Morgan poured in 14 first-half points and finished with 20 points and five steals. Three other players scored in double figures, including Michael Moynihan and LaBrian Lyons who tallied 17 apiece, while Langston chipped in 12 points and five rebounds.

Camerson led all scorers with 24 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, while Plavich drained six three-pointers for 18 points in 23 minutes of action. Camerson Sharp added 13 points on 5-8 shooting.

The Saints shot 49 percent for the contest, while Carson-Newman was 45 percent from the field and outrebounded North Georgia 46-45.

North Georgia returns to action on the road, taking on 2nd-ranked USC Aiken as PBC play resumes on Saturday, January 3, 2009. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Pacer’s Convocation Center.
