Saints Surge Past FMU for Second Straight Victory
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia College and
State University used a second-half surge to come from behind and
defeat Francis Marion University 77-63 in front of over 3,000 fans
Saturday evening in Memorial Hall.
The Saints pick up their second straight victory and improve to
10-7 overall and 4-7 in the conference, while Francis Marion falls
to 11-6 overall and 4-6 in the league.
With the Patriots leading 41-36 at intermission, North Georgia came
out firing in the second half and used a 14-2 run to take a 50-43
lead with 13:15 remaining. Matt Maddox keyed the run with a pair of
three-pointers off the bench put the Saints in front for good.
Francis Marion pulled to within three points on two different
occasions, but the Saints continued to answer every run and held
their largest lead of the game at 14 when time expired.
North Georgia used balanced scoring and bench production to pick up
the win as four players scored in double figures. Labrian Lyons
flirted with a double-double as he led he Saints with 16 points and
seven assists, while Anthony Rowe tallied another double-double,
notching 15 points and 10 rebounds. Andre Morgan reached double
figures with 11 points on a perfect 5-5 shooting performance from
the free throw line, and Brody Langston continued to keep the crowd
on edge with jaw dropping blocks, highlight dunks, and 10 points in
30 minutes of action.
FMU’s Anthony Wallen led all scorers with 23 points on 6-13
shooting from behind the arc, while Kendrick Robinson was the only
other Patriot player to score in double figures with 15 points and
three rebounds.
After going just 1-11 from long range in the first half, the Saints
rebounded with a trio of three-pointers in the second period to
finish the game 21.1 percent from behing the arc, while Francis
Marion was 32.1 percent from the three point line.
North Georgia returns to action on the road, traveling to Lander
University on Monday, February 2, with tip-off scheduled for 7:30
p.m. in Greenwood, SC.
