Saints Halt Skid, Down In-State Rival GSW 82-75

AMERICUS, GA – North Georgia renewed an old rivalry Wednesday evening, traveling to Georgia Southwestern State University and pulling away late for an 82-75 victory at the Storm Dome in Peach Belt Conference action.

North Georgia puts a stop to a three-game skid and improves to 9-7 overall and 3-7 in the PBC, while the Hurricanes fall to 7-11 and 3-8 in the conference.

Junior Michael Moynihan paced four North Georgia players in double figures and led all scorers with 23 points on 6-12 shooting. Andre Morgan and LaBrian Lyons tallied 12 points apiece, while Brody Langston chipped in 10 and Xavier Trice added nine.

The Hurricanes held their last lead of the game at 71-70 with 4:24 remaining when the Saints took over and answered with an 11-2 run, capped by a free throw from Moynihan to send North Georgia to another road victory.

North Georgia was a solid 45.8 percent from the field, 46.7 percent from behind the arc, and 70 percent from the charity stripe. The Saints held the Hurricanes to just 26.7 percent from long range, and forced 17 turnovers, which resulted in 22 points the other way for head coach Chris Faulkner’s squad.

The Saints return to action on Saturday afternoon, hosting Francis Marion University at 4:00 p.m. for homecoming 2009. A capacity crowd is expected to turn out as the Patriots roll into town for another PBC matchup.
