DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia
Men’s Basketball program will officially open the 2008-09
season Saturday evening in Carrollton, Georgia, taking on crosstown
rival West Georgia in what proves to be an exciting opener for both
squads.
The Saints are coming off their most successful season since
entering the NCAA after going 18-11 overall, 12-8 in PBC play, and
picking up their first-ever Peach Belt Conference Tournament
victory in 2007-08. Head Coach Chris Faulkner enters his sixth
season at the helm of the Saints, and returns three starters from a
year ago.
Last year’s Peach Belt All-Conference performer Andre
Morgan, who averaged 14.9 points per game, will look to lead a
veteren-laden squad that features six seniors and five juniors.
Xavier Trice, Anthony Rowe, and LaBrian Lyons, who combined to
average 30.6 points per game last season, will look to be the final
push the Saints need as they look to make a run at their first-ever
NCAA Tournament Appearance.
Nine newcomers will look to make a difference this season,
including four of those players who come to North Georgia with
college experience. Michael Moynihan will take over the point guard
position after starting the final six games last season for Georgia
State University.
Playing in the always-tough Peach Belt Conference, the Saints will
compete against the best teams in the nation, including a pair of
preseason top-ten teams in USC Aiken and Augusta. The Saints will
hit the road for non-conference games against West Georgia,
Flagler, Newberry, and Anderson before hosting Carson-Newman on New
Years Eve.
