Saints Edge West Georgia at the Buzzer

CARROLLTON, GA - North Georgia College and State University hit the road for their season opener Saturday evening, taking West Georgia down to the buzzer and coming away with a 72-70 victory at the HPE Center in non-conference action.

The Saints led by a point when senior Andre Morgan was fouled with 15 seconds remaining in the game. Morgan knocked down one of two foul shots and the defense held on to get away with the two-point victory.

The Saints jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in the first half, capped by a three-pointer by Michael Moynihan at the 16:13 mark. West Georgia would answer right back with a 21-7 run to take a four point lead with 7:02 remaining in the first period. The Wolves held on to a 32-28 lead at intermission.

The Saints outscored West Georgia 44-38 in the second half, led by Moynihan who made an impressive debut for North Georgia with 18 points and six assists. Morgan followed with 13 points, and LaBrian Lyons, Brody Langston, and Andrew Bennett all scored in double figures with 10 points apiece.

North Georgia shot 41 percent from the field, while West Georgia was 38 percent overall.

The Saints return to action for their home opener, hosting Carver Bible College on Tuesday, November 25, at 7:00 p.m.
