Trojan's Dozen Three-Pointers Sink Saints

DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia men’s basketball team saw the red hot shooting of Anderson University run the show Tuesday evening as the Trojans sank 12 three-pointers on their way to a 91-81 victory over the Saints in non-conference action.

North Georgia drops their fourth straight contest, falling to 3-5 overall on the season, while Anderson continues to roll, moving to 6-1 overall with the road victory.

Anderson opened the game in front and never trailed in the first half, leading by as many as nine points midway through half before North Georgia trimmed the Trojan lead to seven at intermission.

With the score tied 16-16 with 13:10 on the clock, Anderson used an 11-2 run capped by a jumper from Taylor Shugart to give the Trojans a 27-18 advantage, their largest lead of the half.

The Saints pulled even with Anderson four times in the first half, forcing ties throughout the period, but seven first-half buckets from behind the arc gave the Trojans the halftime lead.

Anderson quickly added to their halftime lead in the opening minutes of the second period, running out to a 14-point advantage at 57-43 on a jumper by Trey Britton with 15:58 left. The Trojans continued to add to their double-digit lead and took their largest lead of the night at 21 points with a three-pointer from Tony Anderson, giving the visitors a 78-57 lead.

The Saints put together a rally down the stretch with pressure defense and transition scoring, pulling to within seven point at two different points with under a minute to play, but the Trojans held on with clutch free throw shooting in the final seconds for the 91-81 victory.

Anderson sharp shooting from long range was the difference, going 12-21 from behind arc, good for 57.1 percent overall, while North Georgia was 40 percent from long range, 48.4 percent from the field, and 60.7 percent from the free throw line.

Anderson’s balanced scoring featured six players in double figures, including Oskers Ernsteins who posted a team-high 18 points on 6-8 shooting.

Michael Moynihan paced four North Georgia players in double figures with 21 points, while Bernard Rimmer added 20 points and eight rebounds. Keldrick Coleman and Pat Moynihan rounded the Saints in double figures, posting 11 and 10 points respectively.

The Saints return to action on Thursday evening, hosting Flagler College in a non-conference battle with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
