Saints Roll Past Flagler, Win Seventh Straight
ST AUGUSTINE, FL
– The North Georgia men’s basketball team rolled on to
another win on Thursday evening, traveling to Flagler College and
taking care of business with a 72-53 victory in the battle of the
Saints in Peach Belt Conference action.
North Georgia continues to impress, winning their seventh straight
overall, and fifth straight on the road, improving to 12-6 overall
and 7-1 in the Peach Belt Conference. Flagler continues to
struggle, falling to 7-10 overall and 2-6 in their first season in
the league.
With the victory, the Saints post their first seven-game winning
streak since the 2004-05 season where they won eight straight, and
are currently on their longest winning streak since entering the
NCAA and the Peach Belt Conference five seasons ago.
Flagler led the first half until the 10:41 mark when North Georgia
erased a five-point deficit and took their first lead since the
opening minute with a bucket from Kindall Butler to take a 19-18
advantage. North Georgia continued to extend their lead, using a
15-0 run to create their first double-digit lead of the game at
28-18 with 6:30 remaining.
Faulkner’s Saints led by as many as 13 points twice during
the first half before holding a 10-point lead at the half. To open
the second half, North Georgia continued to hold a comfortable lead
and used a pair of free throws by Michael Moynihan at the 15:38
mark to take a 10-point advantage as the Saints led by
double-digits the rest of the way.
North Georgia continued to pull away down the stretch and held
Flagler scoreless the final two minutes of the game to take a
19-point road victory in St. Augustine.
Bernard Rimmer paced the Saints with 18 points on 7-15 shooting
from the floor, while Michael Moynihan followed with 14 points, and
Kindall Butler and Andrew Bennett tallied a dozen points
apiece.
North Georgia shot 42.6 percent from the floor, 25 percent from
long range, and 66.7 percent from the free throw line, while
Flagler was 36.7 percent from the field, 30 percent from the behind
the arc, and 63.6 percent from the charity stripe.
The Saints return to action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to
Armstrong Atlantic for another Peach Belt Conference battle with
the Pirates. Tip-off is slated for 3:30 p.m. in Alumni Arena.
