Saints Claw Bears 114-88, Stay Perfect on Season
DAHLONEGA, GA
– The North Georgia College & State University
men’s basketball team stayed perfect on the season Thursday
evening, using balanced scoring to pull away from Truett-McConnell
College and sink the Bears 114-88 in non-conference action in
Memorial Hall.
North Georgia remains perfect on the season, improving to 2-0 on
the young year, while Truett McConnell falls to 2-6 on the
season.
With the Bears leading by a point with nine minutes to play in the
first period, North Georgia picked up the intensity on defense and
Keldrick Coleman converted back-to-back steals and fast break
layups to give the Saints the lead. Andrew Bennett followed with a
pair free throws and a bucket as North Georgia went on a 10-0 run
to take a 35-26.
Truett-McConnell trimmed North Georgia’s lead down to just
two with three minutes to play in the opening period, but the
Saints rallied down the stretch, knocking down a three-pointer at
the buzzer as Michael Moynihan found an open Chase Anderson to give
North Georgia a 52-44 advantage at intermission.
North Georgia came out in the second half and jumped all over the
Bears, taking an 18-point lead just seven minutes into the half.
The Saints led by 30 points on three different occasions before
defeating Truett-McConnell by 26 points.
North Georgia finished the game 51-percent from the field, while
Truett-McConnell was 54-percent from the floor. The two teams
combined for 64 total fouls, and the Bears committed 21 turnovers
to the Saints’ 12.
The Bears had a higher free throw, field goal, and three-point
percentage, but North Georgia held a 48-24 advantage in
rebounds. The Saints had 50 points in the paint and used 31
second chance to dominate the second half.
The Saints return to action on Saturday evening, traveling to
Newberry College for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off. North Georgia returns
home Tuesday evening to host Lynn University in non-conference
action.
