Basketball Teams Set for Busiest Week of the Season

Men's Schedule | Women's Schedule

DAHLONEGA, GA – Altered schedules and previous inclement weather delays have set up for the busiest schedule of the year this coming week for the North Georgia men's and women's basketball teams, with three home games in a six-day span.

The basketball teams will kick things off on Monday evening in a rescheduled doubleheader with the University on Montevallo, a double dip originally scheduled for earlier this month, but a blizzard dropping nearly a foot of snow in the North Georgia Mountains forced a cancellation.

The Falcons, in just their second year in the league, come to Dahlonega to battle North Georgia with the women tipping-off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men taking the court at 7:30 p.m.

The Saints and Lady Saints will then have Tuesday off before welcoming Flagler College to town on Wednesday evening in a doubleheader that was originally scheduled for Thursday evening but has been moved up a day due to logistical reasons.

Wednesday's primetime doubleheader against Flagler College will play host to North Georgia's Residence Life Spirit Night as students living on campus are encouraged to attend the event for a special night of prizes and recognition. The first 250 resident students through the door will receive thunder sticks to cheer the Saints past Flagler in a crucial PBC cross-division matchup.

The third and final basketball doubleheader of the week is set for Saturday afternoon and will serve as Homecoming 2011 as in-state rival Armstrong Atlantic makes their way to town. Plan to arrive early to Memorial Hall as seating will be limited and sold on a first-come first-serve basis.

Plenty of festivities are planned for Homecoming, as the North Georgia Athletics Hall of Fame will introduce the inaugural class during halftime of the women's game. Former basketball legends Brenda Hill and Jim Hyder are among the recipients, while longtime basketball coach and athletic director Bill Ensley is also a member of the inaugural class. Former baseball player and coach Bob Stein is the fourth and final member of the class, as the group will be recognized for their contributions to the department of athletics.

After the women's game, the Blue Ridge Rifles will take center stage and provide their annual performance for what will be a sold out crowd in Memorial Hall. The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime of the men's game, setting the stage for the second half of the men's game between the Saints and Pirates.

Mark your calendars for the busiest week of home basketball this season as the Saints and Lady Saints near the midpoint of a grueling 17-game Peach Belt Conference schedule in the toughest NCAA Division II league in the country.
