Flagler Spoils Homecoming, Pick up First Peach Belt Win

Contact Joey Daniels,

DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia never caught their stride on Saturday afternoon and gave Flagler their first conference win, falling 66-60 in Memorial Hall.

The North Georgia Saints (8-12, 3-6 PBC) struggled from the floor and failed to really gain any momentum against a struggling and PBC-winless Flagler College. North Georgia shot just 14 percent (2-14) from the three-point line and only 36 percent (18-49) form the floor.

Flagler (7-12, 1-11 PBC) had one of their best shooting games of the year, and it could not have came at a worse time for North Georgia.  Flagler shot 50 percent (7-14) from three and 46 percent (23-50) from the field, good enough to give them their first conference win of the season.

Scott Windom led the way for North Georgia with 23 points and five rebounds. Windom was also four of five from the free throw line.

Windom was the only player in double figures for North Georgia. Clarence Tillman had a very quiet eight points, while Elijah Smith finished with seven points and five rebounds.

With the game tied with less than a minute to play, the Saints of North Georgia failed to get two key stops, allowing Flagler two easy layups. North Georgia could not respond after they fell down by four, as Robby Goldsmith clanked a three-pointer with eight seconds remaining.

After losing six straight, North Georgia seemed to be back on track with a win over Armstrong on Wednesday, but that was not the case as the Saints played one of their worst games of the year.

Flagler was led by Jarrod Branco, who came off the bench and scored a team-high 18 points. Branco hit three after three down the stretch to keep Flagler in the game and  eventually earn the six-point victory.

The Hall of Fame Class of 2012 was honored during halftime of the women's game, while the 2012 Homecoming Court was announced during halftime of the men's game.

North Georgia will look to rebound next week, as they travel to Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday evening. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM in the Storm Dome.
