Men’s Basketball Inks Pair of Local Standouts During Early Signing Period
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University men's basketball has gotten a jump on recruiting for next season as two local prep standouts have signed with the Saints during the recent early signing period.
Gainesville High School senior Shaquan Cantrell and North Hall High School senior Ethan "Ebo" Smith have both signed their National Letters of Intent to play their college ball in Dahlonega starting next fall.
North Georgia head men's basketball coach Chris Faulkner is very excited about the two additions to his program and expects both to have a bright future under his guidance. "Both Shaquan and Ebo are very talented young men who will have great careers here at North Georgia. Shaquan is an athletic wing who is explosive and will be a mainstay in our program for the next four years while Ebo gives us another talented guard who can really score and understands the game and how we want to play.
"The talent in our area is very good and signing these two players from the Gainesville area is huge for our program and our fans. We are very much looking forward to the next four years and the addition of Shaquan and Ebo to our program."
Cantrell, a 6-4 wing, averaged 18 points and 7.0 rebounds per game last season as a junior for the Red Elephants. He helped his team to a 16-10 record.
Smith, a 6-2 guard, averaged 19 points and 4.0 assists per contest as a junior and led the Trojans to a 24-6 record that included them winning the region championship.
