TOWSON, Md. – University of North Georgia men's basketball player Travis Core has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District 3 team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) it was announced late Thursday.
A sophomore guard from Trenton, Ga., Core boasts a 3.79 grade point average as a Physical Education/Exercise Science major. He is joined on the team by fellow Peach Belt Conference players Ben Jacobs from the University of North Carolina Pembroke and Jesse Seilern of the University of South Carolina Aiken.
Core has started all 18 games this season at the point guard position, averaging 20.4 minutes and 6.9 points per game. He is a 43.9% shooter from the field and is second on the team with 3.1 assists per game.
In Thursday's game at Columbus State, Core was third on the team in scoring as he tallied 10 points off a 4-7 performance. His best game of the season came in a 93-85 road win over Limestone when he scored 11 points off a 4-5 shooting effort and went 3-3 from the free throw line. In the Limestone game, he also corralled in three rebounds and had two assists.
Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All‐America teams programs since 2011.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All‐America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2012‐13 DII and DIII Academic All‐America teams program.
