Dramatic Final Minute Allows #12 Montevallo To Escape Memorial Hall With 101-94 Overtime PBC Victory

DAHLONEGA, Georgia – (UNGAthletics.com) – #12 University of Montevallo rallied back from seven points down with less than a minute to play in regulation and eventually secured a dramatic 101-94 Peach Belt Conference victory over the University of North Georgia on Saturday in UNG's Memorial Hall.  Troran Brown scored all seven of the frantic final minute's points en route to a game-high 25 points.

North Georgia led 86-79 following a layup by Chris Tanzy with 57 ticks left but Brown would hit a three-pointer just 13 seconds later.  Following a block of a Tanzy layup by UM's Da-Juan Cooper, the guard would even the score with a rare four-point play as he was fouled in the act of scoring another long-range three with 27 seconds left.

Neither team was able to get a final shot off as they traded final empty possessions.

Following an old-fashioned three by Tanzy just 30 seconds into overtime, Montevallo secured the win by scoring seven of the game's next eight points to lead 96-90 with less than two minutes left.

The game was tied at 43 at the break and would remain close until North Georgia's seven-point lead prior to the game's final dramatic finish.

North Georgia (7-10, 4-7 PBC) placed five players in double figures led by Tanzy's 22 points on 8-13 from the floor.  Michael Varrichione added 15 and Ishmael Hollis contributed with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Shaquan Cantrell came off the bench to pitch in with 12 points while Lamar Richardson added 11.

Tanzy added seven assists, six rebounds and five steals.

Montevallo (16-2, 9-2 PBC) placed six in double figures led by Brown's 25-point night.  The point guard added eight assists and was a perfect 5-5 from the line.

Ryan May added 22, including six threes for the Falcons.

The Nighthawks return to action on Wednesday, February 5 with a PBC West Division home game against Young Harris with tip off set for 7:30 in Memorial Hall.
