GREENSBORO, GA
– The North Georgia men’s golf team holds a 10-shot
lead after the opening day of a head-to-head match with NCAA
Division I opponent the University of Dayton Ohio, as Howard Duffin
holds a seven-shot edge atop the leaderboard.
In the first round between the Saints and Flyers held at Reynolds
Plantation at the Oconee course, North Georgia fired a 19-over-par
307 to hold a 10-shot lead over the Flyers who sit at 29-over-par
with a 317.
Rynolds Plantation’s Oconee Course is a 2002 Rees Jones
designed course that has hosted high-visible tournaments like the
2007 PGA Cup and the Chick-Fil-A Bowl Alma Mater.
Howard Duffin’s first-round school record three-under-par 69
is good for a seven shot lead as the sophomore was five-under par
with six holes to play before dropping a pair of shot coming in,
but the Wigmore, England, native rallied with a birdie on 18 to
capture the 69.
Bryson Womack’s four-over-par 76 is good for second place
overall, three shots of ahead of a group of Flyers. Three Dayton
players sit in a tie for third place with seven-over-par 79’s
as Matt Buse, Sean Keating, and Chris Woeste, all sit 10 shots off
the lead.
Brian Mallory and Jake Martin are tied for seventh overall with
nine-over-par 81’s, while Dayton’s Brenton Blakeman,
Jeff Hodapp, and John Muir, are all tied for ninth place after
recording rounds of 83.
The final round of the head-to-head match between North Georgia
and the University of Dayton Ohio will shift north to Achasta Golf
Club in Dahlonega, Georgia, as the two teams will battle at the
Par-72 6,995 yard course.
