Men's Golf Takes 9th at AASU Pirate Invitational
SAVANNAH, GA
– The North Georgia men’s golf team rounded out the
final at the 2010 AASU Pirate Invitational on Tuesday afternoon,
finishing ninth in the field of nine teams at the two-round event
held at the Southbridge Golf Club.
Flagler College shot a two-over-par 290 and held off host Armstrong
Atlantic State by one shot in capturing the title, while UNC
Pembroke was third, Queens University fourth, and Lander University
fifth. The Saints were ninth at 57-over-par with 633 strokes.
Individual medalist honors went to Ben Lasso of Queens, who shot a
tournament-best five-under-par 67 on Tuesday to finish the
tournament with a four-under-par 140 total and win by one stroke
over AASU junior David Patterson. Patterson carded a two-under-par
70 on Tuesday to finish with a three-under-par 141 total, a
career-best finish for the Liverpoo, England native.
Brian Mallory led the Saints in the event, firing a final round
four-over-par 76 to finish in a tie for 32nd place overall at 153.
Jake Martin finished alone in 41st position with a total score of
157, recording an opening round 80, before shooting a final round
77.
Bryson Womack led the team after the first day with a four-over-par
76, but an 85 in the final round dropped Womack to a tie for 47th
place overall at 161. Howard Duffin notched rounds of 80 and 82 to
finish 49th overall, while Benjamin Jarrard finished 54th with a
169.
The Saints return to action next weekend, traveling to the St.
Andrews Invitational for a two-day event.
