KIAWAH ISLAND, SC – The North Georgia
College & State University men’s golf team made their
program debut Monday morning at the sixth Annual Kiawah Island
Invitational, finishing the first round with a team score of 327,
placing them 15th overall.
GCSU, the #1 team in the Golf Coaches Association of America
preseason top 25, sits in first place after the opening round,
posting a team total three-over-par 291, just one shot ahead of
Indianapolis (292) in second place, followed by North Alabama in
third place who arrives at the midway point of the tournament two
shots off the lead at 293 overall.
North Georgia was led by Brian Mallory who shot a 6-over 78,
placing him 12 shots off the lead held by Indianapolis’ Seth
Fair who fired a 6-under 66 to hold a four-shot advantage after the
opening round.
Jake Martin checked into the Cougar Point Golf Club Clubhouse with
a 7-over 79, while Matt Rochlin shot an 11-over 83.
Howard Duffin recorded an 87 in the opening round, while Stanley
Roberts was five shots behind Duffin, placing a 92 on his first
scorecard of the season.
The second and final round of the 2009 Kiawah Island Invitational
is set to get underway Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m.
