Men's Golf Completes First-Ever Tourney at Kiawah

DAHLONEGA, GA
– The North Georgia men’s golf team played the final
round of the sixth annual Kiawah Island Invitational Tuesday
afternoon, improving 17 shots from the opening round to finish with
a tournament total score of 637, good for 15th place overall.
Georgia College & State University, the #1 team in the
country, proved they deserved the ranking, clearing the field by
seven shots to run away with the Kiawah Island Invitational at
5-under par, firing a 571 as a team. USC Beaufort finished
second, while Belmont grabbed third, and North Alabama was
fourth.
Howard Duffin produced the biggest scoring swing for the Saints,
recording a 2-over 74, 13 shots better then his opening round to
lead the Saints. Brian Mallory notched his second straight 6-over
78, putting him in a tie for 55th place overall individually.
Jake Martin’s final round was two shots better then his
opening 18, finishing with a 5-over 77 on Tuesday to post a 12-over
156 for the two-day event, tying Mallory for the team’s
lowest tournament total.
Stanley Roberts and Mat Rochlin rounded out the field for the
Saints during the final round, shooting 81 and 85 respectively.
Roberts shaved 11 shots off his first round total, the second
highest turnaround on the team behind Duffin.
North Georgia will have a week off before returning to action at
the 4th Annual Piedmont Fall Invitational in Clarkesville, Ga. The
two-day event starting on Monday, September 21, will take place at
The Orchard Golf & Country Club.
