PINE MOUNTAIN, GA – The North Georgia
men’s golf team opened play Monday at the 19th annual PBC
men’s golf tournament championships, rounding out the 11-team
field after the 36-hole day-one event on the Mountain View Course
at Callaway Gardens.
Armstrong Atlantic emerged from the field on the opening day to
take a six-shot lead into the final round, firing a six-over-par
582 with rounds of 293 and 289 to clear 2nd-ranked Georgia College
& State University by six strokes. The Bobcats sit at
12-over-par, while UNC Pembroke, USC Aiken, and Columbus State
round out the top five.
North Georgia is currently 11th in the field, recording a morning
round of 310, while an afternoon round of 319 put the Saints at
53-over-par with a 629, sitting 12 shots behind Georgia
Southwestern.
A pair of players managed to shoot under par on Monday as
Armstrong Atlantic’s Parker Gordon leads the tournament at
three-under-par with rounds of 70 and 71 to hold a one shot lead
over UNC Pembroke’s Jordan Walor who sits at two-under-par.
The two players under par have a pair of players to watch at even
par as GCSU’s Niclas Johansson and USC Aiken Frederik Schulte
are three shots off the lead.
Jake Martin is the North Georgia leader heading into the final
round, recording a pair of rounds in the 70’s as the freshman
posted a 77 in the morning, before an afternoon 79 put Martin in
40th place overall at 12-over-par.
Howard Duffin was right on the heels of Martin, matching his
teammate’s opening round 77, but Duffin’s round of 80
late in the day put him in 41st overall at 13-over-par. Brian
Mallory recorded rounds of 80 and 79 to sit in a tie for 45th
overall at 15-over-par with a two-round score of 159.
Bryson Womack is alone in 50th place heading into the final round
as the junior had the team’s low round of the day in the
morning with a four-over-par 76, but an afternoon that saw Womack
add 10 shots to his morning round put his overall score at
18-over-par with a 162.
Ben Jarrard rounded out the team with an opening-round 91, but the
freshman managed to scrape together an 81 in the afternoon and head
into Tuesday’s final round in a tie for 53rd place at
28-over-par.
Play resumes Tuesday morning as the 19th annual PBC men’s
golf championship will crown a winner following a final round on
the par 72 Mountain View course that stretches 7,057 yards in
