Saints Take Home Title at Piedmont College Invite
CLARKESVILLE, GA
– The North Georgia men’s golf team has picked up their
second straight victory, clearing the 11-team field by 19 shots as
the Saints dominated the competition at the 4th Annual Piedmont
College Spring Invitational at The Orchard Golf & Country Club
on Tuesday afternoon.
North Georgia, which held a two-shot lead at the midway point,
fired a final round 308 to finish at 615 overall and take the team
tournament title, 19 strokes ahead of ABAC who tallied a 634,
followed by host Piedmont in third place with a 640.
Maryville College’s Trey Bridwell came up with the low round
of the day with a three-under-par 69 to run away with five-shot
victory, while North Georgia’s Bryson Womack finished second
with rounds of 74 and 75 to finish five shots off the pace with a
149.
Ben Jarrard recorded his first top-five collegiate finish, taking
fifth place with a final round 80, following an opening round 73
that saw the freshman hold the clubhouse lead. Jake Martin’s
final round 74 was the low round on the day for North Georgia, but
his nine-over-par 81 in the opening round placed Martin in seventh
place overall.
Brian Mallory fired a pair of 79’s to finish tied for 10th
overall, while Stanley Roberts notched a pair of 82’s to come
in 27th overall.
North Georgia returns to action at the Bearcat Invitational in
Greenwood, South Carolina, hosted by Lander University. Round one
of the two-round event will take place on Monday, March 29, 2010.
