CLARKESVILLE, GA – The North Georgia
College & State University men’s golf team recorded their
highest finish of the season Tuesday afternoon, taking 7th place in
a field of 14 teams at the 4th Annual Piedmont College Fall
Invitational at The Orchard Golf & Country Club.
The tournament was originally scheduled to be a 36-hole event with
18 holes on Monday, followed by the final round on Tuesday, but the
tournament was shortened to 18 holes after heavy rains washed out
the first round on Monday.
Brian Mallory provided the fireworks for North Georgia, walking off
the 18th green with a one-under-par 71 to sneak into a four-team
playoff where Winston Gibbs of Abraham Baldwin came away with the
victory in the fifth extra hole. Jeremy Cason of Maryville College
and David Strader of Piemdont College were also involved in the
four-team playoff.
Howard Duffen fired a four-over-par 76 to finish in 14th place,
while Jake Martin was third on the team with an eight-over-par 80
to grab a share of 35th place overall.
Matt Rochlin rounded out the scoring for North Georgia in a tie for
48th place, recording a 12-over-par 84, while Benjamin Jarrard
notched a 14-over-par 86.
In a tightly contested race for the team title, Piedmont College
grabbed top honors, recording an 11-over-par 299, while Maryville
College was a shot behind at 300, and Milligan College and Young
Harris grabbed a tie for third with a total score of 301.
North Georgia returns to action October 5-6 at the Chick-fil-A
Intercollegiate at the Stonebridge Country Club.
