CLARKESVILLE, GA – The North Georgia men's golf
team put together a strong finish in the final round of the 5th
Annual Piedmont College Fall Invitational, making push for the
title but settling for third place at The Orchard Golf and Country
Club.
The Saints surged with a final round 303, but came up five shots
behind Maryville College who captured the title with 603 total
strokes, while Milligan College was second, finishing just two
strokes behind the leaders. North Georgia finished with a 608 after
rounds of 305 and 303 to put them eight shots clear of fourth place
Covenant College.
Bryson
Womack made his best showing of the fall season, taking fourth
place overall following a final round even par 72 to finish at
3-over-par for the tournament. Freshman Grant Rish had his
coming out party with rounds of 76 and 74 to finish at 150 overall
and alone in sixth place, the first top-10 finish for the Port St.
Joe, Fl., native.
Howard
Duffin's rounds of 77 and 76 put the junior in a tie for 11th
place overall in the tournament, while Brian Mallory
finished five shots behind Duffin with a 158, good for a 16th place
finish. Dillon
Bowers had a 12-over-par 84 in the final round, putting the
freshman in a tie for 24th place overall after an opening round
79.
The Saints will take some time off before returning to action the
first week in October at the Montevallo Invitational at Timberline
Golf Club. Round one is set for Monday, October 4, with the final
to follow on Tuesday.
