Men's Golf Rebounds for 4th Place Finish at Montevallo
CALERA, AL – The North Georgia men's golf team
finished fourth in the field of six teams at the Montevallo
Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the 6,745-yard par 71
Timberline Golf Club.
The University of Montevallo came out on top in the two-day event,
edging West Georgia by two shots with a 589, while Catawba College
took third with a 606. North Georgia fired rounds of 311 and 303 to
take fourth place overall with a 56-over-par 624, while Birmingham
Southern and Gordon College rounded out the field.
UAB's Blake Watts and West Georgia's Bryn Powers
finished tied atop the leaderboard with even-par 142's for
the week, while Birmingham Southern's Matt Kelly and
Montevallo's Joe Haupt were two shots off the leaders in a
tie for third place.
Bryson Womack led the Saints with a six-over-par 148 after round of
75 and 73 to finish in a tie for 9th place overall, while Brian Mallory ended the tournament in a tie for 16th place following
rounds of 77 and 76 to put the senior at 11-over-par.
Howard Duffin rebounded during the final round to finish alone in
21st place after rounds of 80 and 76, while Grant Rish and Jake Martin finished the invitational in 22nd and 28th place after
posting scores of 157 and 162 respectively.
The Saints will have a week off before traveling to the Mountain
Lion Fall Invitational hosted by Young Harris College at the Old
Union Golf Course. The single round event is scheduled for October
13, with a 1:00 p.m. start time.
