BLAIRSVILLE, GA – The North Georgia men's golf
team captured their first team and individual championship of the
year on Wednesday afternoon at the First Annual Mountain Lion Fall
Invitational hosted by Young Harris College at Old Union Golf
Club.
North Georgia ran away with the single-round four-team event,
firing a 14-over-par 302 to clear runner-up Faulkner University by
eight shots. Faulkner's "B" squad finished in a
tie for third with Young Harris as the two teams rounded out the
field with a 30-over-par 318.
Bryson Womack continued his stellar performance in the fall,
surging on the back nine to post a 1-over-par 73 and capture the
individual championship by two shots. His 74.9 stroke average this
season is the lowest on the team as the sophomore notched his
second lowest round of the year for his first collegiate individual
victory.
Brian Mallory and Faulkner's Javier Gonzalez finished in a
tie for second place with a 3-over-par 75, while Howard
Duffin's 4-over-par 76 put him in a tie for fourth place on
the day.
Grant Rish posted a top-10 finish with his 6-over-par 78, good for
a 9th place tie overall, while Ben Jarrard was a shot behind his
teammate in 11th place with a 7-over-par 79.
Dillon Bowers and Jake Martin both finished in the top-20, posting
rounds of 81 and 82 respectively as the pair took 15th and 19th
place at the conclusion of the single-round event on the 7,082-yard
par 72 layout.
Matt Rochlin recorded a 14-over-par 86 for a 22nd place finish,
while Stanley Roberts rounded out the field with a 20-over-par
92.
The Saints will now set their sights toward the final event of the
fall season as the team will travel to the NCAA Division II
Southeast Regional Preview on October 17-19, at Tanglewood Park
Golf club in North Carolina.
