ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA – The North Georgia men's golf team finished play at the Coastal Georgia Men's Winter Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, taking sixth place in the field of eight teams at Sea Island Golf Club.
The Saints, who held sixth place after the opening round, combine for a 641 with rounds of 323 and 318 to finish ahead of SCAD Atlanta at 684. Shorter College ran away with the event, clearing the field by 14 shots with a 36-over-par 612 to take home the title on the 6,920-yard par-72 course.
ABAC's Case Gard was the individual winner, putting together the best round of the tournament with a final round 3-under-par 69 to shoot even par for the championship and come away the winner by six strokes. Shorter's Arvid Bengtsson and Erwan Vieilledent finished second and third respectively with 150 and 152.
Howard Duffin was right in the mix, notching a top-5 finish with rounds of 76 and 78 to finish in a tie for fourth place overall with a 154, good for 10-over-par for the championship.
Brian Mallory backed up an opening round 86 with a 78 in the final round to finish at 20-over-par with a 164 total. Dillon Bowers and Jake Martin rounded out the team in 32nd and 39th place respectively at 169 and 173 for the two-round event.
The Saints are back in action next week, traveling to the Armstrong Atlantic Pirate Invitational at the Savannah Quarters Country Club. The two-round event will give North Georgia a chance to preview the course before the Peach Belt Conference Championships are held at the venue the second week in April.
