POOLER, GA – The North Georgia men's golf team struggled during the opening day of the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Championships as the Saints sit in 11th place after two rounds at at Savannah Quarters Country Club on Monday.
Flagler fired rounds of 293 and 291 for a two-round 584 total, putting FC just in front of host and No. 15-ranked Armstrong, who shot rounds of 292 and 293 for a 585 total, as well as No. 8-ranked Georgia College, who shot a scorching 282 first round but came back to the pack with a 303 second round for a 585 total as well.
North Georgia rounds out the field following the opening two rounds, sitting in 11th place after rounds of 324 and 330 for a 654 two-round total.
Georgia College's Billy Shida rode a strong first-round 66 en route to a two-round 139 total to hold a three-stroke lead individually over Flagler's Joel Dahlenburg (142). Three golfers are tied for third with one-under-par 143 totals - Flagler's Chris Bray, Georgia College's Gavin Harper and UNC Pembroke's Jonathan McCurry.
Howard Duffin leads the Saints as the junior is currently tied for 30th place overall following rounds of 78 and 77 to sit at 11-over-par for the Championship. Grant Rish and Bryson Womack are not far behind at 21-over-par after the opening two rounds, while Brian Mallory is 25-over-par, and Matt Rochlin rounds out the team at 29-over-par.
Play concludes on Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the Savannah Quarters Country Club to crown the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Champions.
