Men's Golf Rounds out Field at TPC Sawgrass

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL. – The North Georgia men's golf team wrapped their fall campaign Tuesday afternoon, firing a season-high team total of 345 to finish 12th at the Majorie Whitney Invitational contested at the par-72 Dye's Valley Golf Course at the TPC Sawgrass facility. 

The Saints three-round total of 1,000 (326-329-345) was their highest for a 54-hole tournament in school history. As a team, North Georgia recorded 19 birdies and 110 pars.

Nova Southeastern fired a three-round team score of 894 (310-283-301) to coast to a nine shot victory over Barry University. Abilene Christian, Barton College and host Queens University. 

Flagler's Greg Mergel fired a one-over-par 73 in the final round to earn individual honors, beating Nova Southeastern's Ben Taylor by one stroke. Ricardo Celia of Nova Southeastern and Trey Sullivan of Abilene Christian tied for third shooting three-over-par for the tournament, while Kyle Davis of Queens rounded out the top five.

Leading the way for North Georgia was sophomore Grant Rish who continues to impress during the fall, carding a five-over-par 77 to give him a three-round total of 237(80-80-77), which was good enough for a share of 26th place. Rish heads into the spring championship season with a stroke average of 76.9. 

Aaron George wrapped up the fall carding a 16-over-par 88 in the final round to give him a three-round total of 252 (79-85-88) good enough for a share of 53rd place. George enters the spring season with a stroke average of 77.3.

Bryson Womack ended the Majorie Whitney Invitational by firing a 15-over-par 87. Womack's three-round total of 256 (88-81-87) was good enough to tie for 58th place. Womack enters the spring with a stroke average of 82.2. 

Freshman Will Brackett carded a 21-over-par 93, giving him a tournament total of 262 (83-86-93) and sole possession of 62nd place. Brackett finishes the fall with a stroke average of 80.8.

Senior Howard Duffin had a tough go of it at Sawgrass, withdrawing from action in the third round due to a wrist injury. Duffin heads into the spring championship season with a stroke average of 74. 

The Marjorie Whitney Invitational is hosted by Queens University and is held in honor of Majorie Whitney who was a freshman member of the Lady Royals 2009 women's golf team. Whitney passed away in a car accident over Christmas break of her freshman year. This is the first year the tournament holds this name, it was formerly known as the Queens Invitational. 

The Majorie Whitney Invitational is contested at the par-72 Dye's Valley Golf Course at the TPC Sawgrass facility. The course features 6,848 yards from the championship tees and with a course rating of 72.8 and a slope rating of 130 on Bermuda grass. Designed by Pete Dye, ASGCA, the Dye's Valley Golf Course opened in 1987.
