AUGUSTA, GA – The North Georgia men's and women's golf teams along with the Columbus State women's golf team were all named recipients of the Peach Belt Team Sportsmanship Award, the league announced on Wednesday.
The Saints claim the men's award alone while the Saints women will share with the CSU women as the two teams were tied in the voting. The Peach Belt Conference presents one such award for each of its 13 championship sports, the award is voted on by other teams in that sport.
The two awards for North Georgia are there first two of the 2011-12 athletic season, giving them four over the last two years. North Georgia was also named the 2009-10 Institution of the Year for Sportsmanship. Columbus State receives their first team sportsmanship award of the year.
The program presents an award following each championship season to the team in that sport that best exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship and generally conducts themselves with a high degree of integrity, character and class.
The team award is selected by other teams who compete in that sport. Points are awarded based on how each team finished in the voting and in June, the institution with the highest totals will receive the PBC Institution of the Year Sportsmanship Award.
The league's Senior Woman Administrators will oversee the program. You can see the complete list of 2011-12 honorees here.
