ST. SIMONS, Ga. – The University of North Georgia men's golf team opened its Spring 2013 schedule with the Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational, which was contested on Monday, Feb. 11 and Tuesday, Feb. 12. The Saints finished in a tie for fourth place.
Faulkner University took home the individual crown with a team stroke count of 583, 10 strokes better than second place occupied by the College of Coastal Georgia's A-Squad. Lindsey Wilson College finished third as a team with a score of 595 while St. Andrews University's A-Squad tied the Saints with a 616 for fourth-place honors.
Faulkner's Daniel Jansen won the individual crown with a 140 over the two rounds. He led the first day with a 69 and then backed that up with a 71 on Tuesday. Matthew Latham of St. Andrew's finished second as he carded a 70 on Monday and a 72 on Tuesday.
Sophomore Will Bracket paced the Saints with a 149 for the tournament. Bracket was able to bounce back from a 77 on the first day with a 72 in Tuesday's final round to finish tied for 10th overall.
Freshman Zach Caldwell finished the tournament second on the team with a 153, which placed him tied for 26th, while sophomore Aaron George and junior Grant Rish both finished with matching 157's. George and Rish shot 82 in the opening round and then carded 75's in the second.
Senior Derek Watson rounded out the scoring five for the Saints with a 169.
North Georgia will next compete in the Armstrong Atlantic Pirate Invitational in Savannah, Ga. starting on Monday, Feb. 25.
