UNG Men's Golf Opens Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational With 311, Withdraws For Travel Safety
SAINT SIMONS ISLAND, Georgia – (UNGAthletics.com) – The University of North Georgia men's golf team opened the Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational with an opening round 311 which was good for seventh place out of 16 teams. Due to the forecasted winter storm in north Georgia the team has withdrawn from the final round to ensure safe and timely travel back to Dahlonega.
Host College of Coastal Georgia holds the halfway point lead with an opening round 300 (+12) on the Retreat Course at the Sea Island Golf Club.
North Georgia's two-over par 74 was good for 8th place after the first round. Nick Green added a 77 while Michael Motz (79) and Grant Rish (81) rounded out the Nighthawks' team scoring.
North Georgia's next event is scheduled for February 22-23 at the Armstrong Atlantic State University Pirate Invitational at Savannah Quarters Golf Club in Savannah.
Local schools Young Harris and Truett McConnell also chose to drive ahead of the winter storm in lieu of playing the final round.
