Saints Fall 2-1 to Brevard on Late Goal
Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia College
& State University played to a tie at the half, but the
Tornados of Bravard College used a late goal to deny the Saints
their first home win of the season, taking a 2-1 victory Tuesday
evening at the Soccer Complex.
Brevard (3-9-1) got on the board first in the 17th minute as Henri
Erti took a pass from Jusse Halonen in the box and sent a shot past
a diving Rade Tanaskovic to give the Tornados a 1-0 lead.
The Saints would answer right back however, scoring 20-seconds
later on a Terry Gibbs goal to tie the game. Bradley Rose tallied
the assist for North Georgia as the game went into the half knotted
at a goal apiece.
The game remained tied until the 83rd minute when Jussi Halonen
dribbled past a pair of North Georgia defenders and sent a shot
inside the left post to give Brevard a 2-1 advantage, a lead they
would never relinquish.
The Saints had a pair scoring chances in the final five minute,
but Tornado goalkeeper Jerry Hatsady kept the Saints from finding
the net. Hatsady tallied five saves for Brevard, while Tanaskovic
stopped five shots for the Saints.
The Saints outshot Brevard 14-8, and had an 8-3 lead in corner
kicks.
North Georgia (5-8, 0-2 PBC) returns to action this Saturday,
hosting Clayton State University in a Peach Belt Conference clash
at 3:30 p.m.
