Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia looked to be seconds away from another deadlock double overtime tie, but Francis Marion scored as the buzzer sounded, giving the Patriots a 2-1 double overtime victory over the Saints Saturday evening at the Soccer Complex in non-conference action.

Francis Marion (9-4-3, 4-0-1 PBC) vaults to first place in the Peach Belt Conference with the last second victory, while North Georgia (6-10-1, 1-3-1 PBC) will hang on to fourth place with the defeat.

With time running down under ten seconds in the second overtime, FMU’s Kyle Clinton broke free and dribbled toward Saints’ goalkeeper Rade Tanaskovic who came out and got a hand on the ball, but Clinton was able to get off a shot that crossed the goal line with no time remaining, giving the Patriots a 2-1 double overtime thriller.

North Georgia led for most of the contest however, as Avram Allen scored his first goal of the game in the 16th minute to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Bradley Rose dribbled out of trouble and set a liner that was deflected by Terry Gibbs, giving Allen a clear shot, one he took full advantage of as he sent a laser inside the left goal post.

The game would be a 1-0 North Georgia lead at the half, but Francis Marion would come out and tie the game just 13 minutes after intermission as Adrian Williams sent a shot past Tanaskovic to even the score 1-1 and set up the Patriots last second double overtime heroics.

Francis Marion led North Georgia 21-10 in shots, and also held a 9-6 advantage in corner kicks. Clark Richeson tallied six saves for the Patriots, while Rade Tanaskovic saved three shots of his on in the loss.

North Georgia returns to action Satuday, November 1, as they will play their regular season finale on the road at Georgia Southwestern, while Francis Marion will travel to take on Catawba College Tuesday, October 28, at 7:00 p.m. in non-conference action.
