Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia hosted
their first PBC Tournament playoff game Tuesday afternoon, taking
down UNC Pembroke 1-0 in the first round of the Peach Belt
Conference Tournament. The Saints advance to the final four to play
top-seeded Francis Marion Friday evening.
North Georgia picked up their first home win of the season in the
playoff victory, improving to 8-10-1 on the year, while UNC
Pembroke ends their season at 9-9-1, and winning four of their last
five contest.
The Saints battled the Braves to a scoreless halftime contest, as
UNCP outshot North Georgia 3-1, and both teams attempted three
corner kicks.
North Georgia would finally break the scoreless game in the 51st
minute as Avram Allen took a deflection from Ben Chedgy and headed
the ball just out of reach of Horatio Bynes, rolling into the goal
for a 1-0 advantage.
UNC Pembroke put pressure on the Saints late with several
opportunities, but goalkeeper Stephen Smith came up big in his
season debut, recording a pair of saves to shutout the Braves and
send North Georgia to Evans, Georgia, and final four of the Peach
Belt Conference Tournament.
Bynes made two saves in goal for UNC Pembroke in the one-goal
defeat. The Braves attemped seven shots to just five for North
Georgia.
North Georgia will kickoff the second session of the PBC
Tournament Friday evening, playing top-seeded Francis Marion at
7:30 p.m. at Blanchard Woods Park.
