Greenwood, SC - North Georgia College &
State University recorded 12 saves in goal, but fell 2-0 at
21st-ranked Lander University Saturday afternoon in Peach Belt
Conference action.
Lander improved to 6-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the Peach Belt, while
North Georgia falls to 5-6, 0-1.
Adam Arthur gave Lander a 1-0 lead in just the ninth minute of the
game off an assist by Aaron Brittain, who had taken a shot that
bounced off the goalkeeper to Arthur who put it away in the right
side of the net.
Both teams had several scoring chances the rest of the game with
both goalkeepers playing stellar defense.
The Bearcats scored an insurance goal with only 9:38 left when Ivan
Stoykov's cross through the mouth of the goal found Brittain in
front of the left side of the net. Brittain pounded the ball in to
make it 2-0.
Lander out-shot the Saints 22-14. Both goalkeepers had strong games
with the Bearcats' Billy Hale making seven saves in posting the
shutout, while North Georgia's Rade Tanaskovic had 12 saves.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday, October 4, hosting
USC Aiken at 3:30 p.m.
