The Saints Battle Clayton State to 1-1 Draw
Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia College
& State University got back on track Saturday afternoon,
playing Clayton State to a 1-1 deadlock at the soccer complex in
Peach Belt Conference action.
After a scoreless first half, North Georgia (5-8-1, 0-2-1 PBC) drew
first blood in the 48th minute. The Saints’ Bradley Rose took
an incoming pass from Calvin Cook between Laker defender Matthias
Faublas and goalkeeper David Cristofoli and scored to give North
Georgia a 1-0 lead.
However, Clayton State scored the equalizer 10 minutes later as
freshman Leighton Fredericks headed home the goal off a cross from
Matty Phillips.
Neither team could muster much down the stretch, although North
Georgia appeared to take the lead the waning moments of regulation,
an offsides call wiped out the potential game-winning goal and
forced overtime where neither team was able to capitalize.
North Georgia goalkeeper Rade Tanaskovic recorded five saves, while
Cristofoli recorded three saves for Clayton State.
The Saints will be back in action next week on the road, traveling
to Florida to take on Nova Southestern Wednesday evening at 7:00
p.m.
