Melbourne, FL – North Georgia College
& State University used a second half goal by Terry Gibbs to
get by Florida Tech 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Rick Stottler Field in
non-conference action.
Despite a scoreless first half, North Georgia took control early
on, posting five shots, three of which were on goal, in the first
period. The Saints first legitimate scoring opportunity came from a
penalty kick taken by Joey Rector, but senior goalkeeper Cory
Collins came away with the save. Collins would go on to collect
four saves before he was replaced by freshman Derrick Hackett.
The Panthers were able to hold North Georgia until the 80th minute
when Chris Griffith tapped the ball to Terry Gibbs in front of the
net. Gibbs was able to get a shot off among a group of defenders,
sending the ball past Hackett for the game’s only goal.
Rade Tanaskovic took control in goal for the Saints, recording
four saves and leading North Georgia to another road win, and
putting a stop to a two-game losing streak.
The Saints return to action on Tuesday afternoon in Charlotte,
North Carolina, taking on Queens University at 4:00 p.m.
