Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia College
& State University rallied with a pair of goals in the final 10
minutes of play, but fell 3-2 at the hands of the University of
Montevallo Friday evening in non-conference action at the soccer
complex.
Montevallo (3-4) got on the board in the 20th minute as James Ward
took a free kick from 15 feet outside the box and placed the ball
just inside the left post to give the Falcons a 1-0 advantage.
The game would remain a one-goal contest at halftime as Montevallo
outshot the Saints 4-3 in the first period.
After intermission, Jonathan Maloney took over the game with his
sixth and seventh goals of the season as he put a three-goal
distance between the Falcons and Saints with scores in the 69th and
75th minute. Nathaniel Foster and James Steer notched assist for
Montevallo in the goals.
North Georgia was far from finished however, as the Saints made it
a game again with a Clay Davis goal in the 82nd minute to make it
3-1. Calvin Cook would follow with a goal of his own just three
minutes later as Stan Soulen sent a cross into the box and Cook
sent it past the Falcon’s goalkeeper to pull the Saints to
within a goal at 3-2.
Time would be against North Georgia as they fought to the final
second, coming up a goal short and falling at home for the second
time this season.
Falcon’s Goalkeeper picked up the win in 72 minutes of play,
recording three saves and not allowing a goal. Sean Durkan made his
debut for North Georgia in goal and recorded five saves in the
contest.
North Georgia (4-4) returns to action this Sunday, traveling to
Florida Tech for a 3:00 p.m. contest against the Panthers in
Melbourne, Florida.
