DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia College
& State University men’s soccer team continued to make a
difference off the field this spring, serving the community through
the Roswell Convey of Hope.
On Saturday, April 18th the North Georgia Men's Soccer Team served
alongside a number of churches, businesses, and other local
non-profit organizations to spread hope to the Metro Atlanta area
through the Roswell Convoy of Hope.
The Convoy of Hope is nonprofit organization, which serves in the
United States and around the world providing disaster relief,
building supply lines and sponsoring outreaches to the poor and
hurting in communities. During the COH, free groceries are
distributed, job and health fairs are organized and activities for
children are provided.
This year the Convoy of Hope came to Roswell, Georgia, to provide
relief to those who are currently unemployed or living below the
poverty line in the Metro Atlanta Area. The entire Men's
Soccer team arrived at 6:30 am on Saturday morning and worked until
3pm, unloading pallets of food, bagging hundreds of bags of
groceries, distributing and carrying food for those in need,
breaking down boxes, and organizing activities for the
kids.
"Its so easy to forget about all the blessings we have in life and
to take your time for granted, but to be able to see the tremendous
needs in our community, and to serve beside so many hundreds of
people for the day was awesome,” junior Stan Soulen said of
the chance to serve the local community. “The kids we spent
time with were great, it is great to be a part of something bigger
than yourself."
Through the efforts of the Saints and the many other volunteers
who served at the Convoy of Hope, 2465 people received food, health
care, haircuts, and childcare.
"We want our program to be about much more than just success on
the field,” head coach Pat Parris said of the effort by his
team. “Part of our team mission here is to build men of
character; part of that is developing men who see the needs of
others and give back to the community around them. I'm proud
of the different community service projects we've been able to take
part of this year. These things go along way in shaping us as
individuals, as teammates, and as leaders on and off the
field."
The men’s soccer program will open the season with
exhibitions at Emmanual College and at home against Southern
Wesleyan before traveling to Florida Southern and St. Leo to open
the regular season.
