BANNER ELK, NC
– The No. 1 Lees-McRae College Bobcats men’s soccer
team defeated the North Georgia College and State University
Saints, 1-0, Tuesday afternoon in a down pour at the Ried Estus
Practice Fields in a non-conference match.
The match was originally scheduled for Tate Field at 7:00 p.m., but
moved to the Ried Estus Practice Field due to field conditions and
the impending rain.
North Georgia falls to 5-10 on the season, while Lees-McRae, the #1
team in the country, stays unbeaten and improves to 14-0-1 on the
year. The Saints opposed the #1 team in the NCAA Division II after

the Spartans held the top spot in the poll.
The only goal of the match came in the 11th minute when David
Palmer ripped a shot from inside the box. The Saints keeper,
Rade Tanaskovic made the save, but Richard Guffens was there to put
the rebound away from the goal.
Sean Paradise earned his fifth shutout of the season with three
saves between the pipes for the Bobcats. Tanaskovic made nine
saves for the Saints in the losing effort..
Lees-McRae outshot North Georgia 19-4 and held a 9-1 advantage in
corner kicks.
North Georgia returns to action on Saturday afternoon for their
regular season finale, hosting UNC Pembroke at the Soccer Complex
in Peach Belt Conference action.
