Hurricanes Prove Deadly in 3-0 PBC Victory over Saints
AMERICUS, GA – The North Georgia men's soccer team
had a breakdown defensively on Tuesday evening as Georgia
Southwestern shocked the Saints 3-0 at Hurricane Field in Peach
Belt Conference action.
North Georgia has now dropped three of their last four games,
falling to 5-5-3 overall on the year and 1-3-1 in the Peach Belt
Conference, while the Hurricanes pick up their first-ever victory
over the Saints in nine attempts, improving to 2-8-0 overall and
1-3 in league play.
Georgia Southwestern dominated early, scoring all three goals in
the first 25 minutes as Yimi Reyes started the offense in the 12th
minute, taking a rebound off the post from eight yards out for his
first goal of the year.
Ross Sellers followed just five minutes later at the 16:11 mark,
finding his second score of the year of yet another rebound, this
one coming from three yards out as the sophomore tapped it home for
a 2-0 Hurricane advantage.
The nightmare continued in the 24th minute when Kacey Sellers
lined up from 20 yards out and scored inside the right post to give
GSW a commanding 3-0 lead heading into intermission.
North Georgia managed seven second-half shots, but were unable to
find the back of the net in the Peach Belt Conference defeat. The
Saints held a 16-6 edge in shots, and took 13 corners to zero for
the Hurricanes, but where it counted, Georgia Southwestern went
home with a 3-0 shutout.
The Saints will have to regroup and prepare for Lees-McRae on
Thursday evening at the North Georgia Soccer Complex. Kickoff
against the Bobcats is set for 5:00 p.m.
